Biggest Curse

Original Swimming Party "Biggest Curse" (Amy Allais, dir.)

My friend Lebogang Mogashoa tells stories about growing up as the son of a domestic worker in Johannesburg, living in the home of his parents’ white employers. This is a very common situation in South Africa - the domestic space divided into squares of have and have nots.

In one of his stories, he recounts how he took a bite out of a cake that his mom baked on behalf of the “Madam” for a church function. And how small acts of rebellion can feel like the first gusts of a mighty wind. This is where this music video came from.
