Colbert "Spoils" A Big VMA Surprise...

ColbchellaBest VMA performance announcement ever? Or did Stephen Colbert go rogue? Or, just a savvy display of corporate synergy?

Who cares when it's good TV and big news.

Daft Punk were scheduled to make their US television debut on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, as part of his "StePhest Colbchella '013 - The Song of the Summer of the Century" — an antiestablishment convention destroying rock and roll ethos brought to you by Hyundai.

Alas, it was not to be. Colbert announced that Daft Punk would not appear due to "clik and clak" having an agreement with fellow Viacom channel MTV to exclusively appear on the Video Music Awards.

It's better to watch the clip than to read my summarization, but it's a gem — highlighted by an email from MTV Netowks president Van Toffler filled with anything by corporate speak.

And cry not for Colbert. He had a star-studded Dance Video version of "Get Lucky" prepped, in addition to "surprise guest" Robin Thicke performing an even bigger Summer smash.

Now, who got punked?
