PODCAST: The Sun's Music Video DVD Album

Band manager Brian Klein and video director Alex Nam discussThe Sun's DVD album Blame It On The Youth and the breakout video for "Romantic Death."

a little deathBlame It On The Youth
is an appropriate title for The Sun's new  album. Young music fans have essentially abandoned the CD, treating it as nothing more than a piece of disposable media containing music they rip into iTunes. So, rather than releasing the album on CD, The Sun decided to make it available as a DVD, with music videos for each song plus unprotected WAV files that users can import into their computers and portable players, or burn to CDs. Band Manager and DVD Executive Producer Brian Klein and "Romantic Death" video director Alex Nam of Aisle Five Studios joined Video Static for this special Podcast. Lsten or download the MP3 or follow our instructions on how to subscribe via iTunes. Badge_itunes_1

Blame It On The Youth
includes 14 music videos that could all stand on their own outside of the collection. Receiving the most attention is Alex Nam's video for the track "Romantic Death." This clever video utilizes footage from  a website called Beautiful Agony, which lets users submit video clips of the facial expressions they make while orgasming.

NEW RELEASE: Chad VanGaalen "Clinically Dead"

Clinically DeadChad VanGaalen "Clinically Dead" Sub Pop
Chad VanGaalen, director
Description: Chad VanGaalen's "Clinically Dead" is an example of music video as a personal, dreamlike interpretation of  melody and words. Animated by the singer/songwriter himself, the video is a conitnuous swirl of drawings that reflects a fasination with biological processes and owls. What does it all mean? I have no idea, but it's very beautiful and interesting. Watch "Clinically Dead" (media hosted by Sub Pop).

Description: Although this video has been airing for a little bit, the onset of fall marks a fine occasion to revisit Death Cab For Cutie's first video off their major label debut, Plans. The lyrical jumping off point for the "Soul Meets Body" video is the line, "A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere." Organic, plant-like musical notes emerge from the ground and float along through the air as singer Benjamin Gibbard makes his way through a forest to join his band mates for a recording session in a remote shack.
