NEW RELEASE: MC Lars "Download This Song"

Like a Used Car Salesman MC Lars
"Download This Song" (Nettwerk)

Frank Borin, director | Gina Cavalier, producer | Joe Pro, DP | Description: MC Lars acknowledges the reality of a music marketplace with his latest anthem of dissent, "Download This Song." Some performance takes place from a used car lot and in a Princess Leia-like projection at a corporate board meeting, but the majority is even more appropriately displayed on computer monitors, iPods, PSPs and cell phones. Much like Lars knows that most fans will choose to download this for free rather than shell out money for a perilously outdated CD, he's also not afraid to do some "sharing" of his own: The guitar vamp is nicked from Iggy Pop's "The Passenger," the quick worldplay rap style owes a debt to Eminem, and the chorus is sung by Bowling for Soup frontman Jaret Reddick. -- watch "Download This Song"

NEWS: Yeah Yeahs Yeahs Want You For New Video

Alternative rockers Yeah Yeah Yeahs and their label Interscope are challenging their fans to prove just how DIY they are by providing all the content for the band's upcoming video, "Cheated Hearts." The official rules as stated on the release form are fairly simple:

  1. Send it on DV TAPE
  2. Dress the part!
  3. Blast the music in the background and play or sing over it...
  4. Get lost in the song make it YOURS.
  5. Got guitar? mic? drums? Use'em! Got no such things? Fake it, use what you got around the house, be resourceful yeah!
  6. Do as many performances as you need, we will edit it! Try and make them different:   FULL BODY, CLOSE-UP, MEDIUM,  FROM THE SIDE,  inside, outside, etc. Do the Nick, do the Brian, do the Karen O.
  7. IMPORTANT: AT LEAST HALF OF YOUR PERFORMANCE SHOULD BE AGAINST A WHITE WALL, or sheet.  SO DO IT ONCE IN FRONT OF A WHITE WALL AND ONCE ANYWAY YOU WANT.
  8. SEND IT TO US, DO IT QUICKLY....YOU WILL BE BIGGER THAN THE SOUND.

Step nine, of course, is signing the release form. Details and the release form are at the YYY Cheated Hearts page. The deadline for all submissions is June 12. (sources: Tripwire)

As the stereotypical student types receive diplomas, we get a sneak peek at what the future may hold for them. The rebellious punk rock chick might become the President, the jock could become a gay marriage activist, the hoodlum might become a kindly priest and, in the one unsurprising prediction, the ditzy rich blonde slut might get knocked up. An additional nice touch is having the aforementioned blonde portrayed by Casey of Laguna Beach. -- watch "Graduation Day" in Quicktime or Windows Media (a making-of special is also hosted at headautomatica.com)
