WATCH IT: OK Go "WTF" vs. "HTF"

This video for OK Go's "WTF" has been out there for a minute (aka, a couple months) but now that I know about "HTF," I can't resist picking it up. "WTF" is the video, directed by the band's friend Tim Nackashi. Much like OK Go's insanely famous dancing on treadmills clip, it's seemingly off-the-cuff, simple to describe, inexpensive to make and perfectly formulated for viral success. In this case, the band members and their outfits and various other objects leave trails on the screen that remain until they get wiped away by other trails. OK, it's not so easy to describe, which is maybe why this video hasn't racked up the 48 million and counting viewcounts as the treadmill clip. But, take a quick look and you'll see what I mean. --> watch "WTF"

"HTF" replaces the WHAT with HOW, as in OK Go band members Damian Kulash and Tim Nordwin take you through the making of "WTF," from inception to concept to execution. It's very funny, very clever and the fact that they tell you every single detail except how they created the trailing effect is a kind of mad genius. It's like if James Cameron did a commentary of Avatar and never mentions that some elements are CG. Or maybe he does a commentary about Titanic and never mentions that there's a boat. Anyway. "WTF" is proof that an interesting video can ben made so long as there's a good idea, some creative energy, lots of gaffing tape and enough money to buy some props from the dollar store. Both "WTF" and "HTF" are funner than a most videos, so I say you watch and enjoy. --> watch "HTF"
