WATCH IT: Woodkid "Iron" (Yoann Lemoine, dir.)

When Mark Romanek tweets about an "astounding" music video, you click on through. As expected, he's correct. Director Yoann Lemoine delivers a b/w work of art for this Woodkid track, starting with a compendium of images that plays like a more naturalistic version of "On To The Next One" before climaxing with an epic battle sequence that answers the question, "What would 300 look like as a fine art flick?" That said, it's pretty awesome in its own right as well (and it should be mentioned that supermodel Agness Deyn stars in it).--> watch "Iron"

BOOKED: Death Cab For Cutie - Tim Nackashi, dir. (LIVE, SCRIPTED)

If a sitcom like 30 Rock can pull off a live-to-air stunt episode, then why can't a music video pull off something similar.

Death Cab For Cutie will be making history with a live, all-in-one take, scripted music video for new single "You Are A Tourist" — It's not a live concert webcast, but an actual conceptual video.

Directed by Tim Nackashi — who's credits include OK Go "WTF" and a 360 explore it yourself clip for Craig Wedren —  and conceptualized by longtime Death Cab visual collaboration Aaron Stewart-Ahn, the video will be produced and filmed and performed LIVE  on Tuesday, April 5th at 7pm EST/4pm PST via www.youareatourist.com...

WATCH IT: Dr. Dre f/ Eminem "I Need A Doctor" (Allen Hughes, dir.)

When a man drives a Ferrari to a cliff in order to contemplate their life and potentially ending it, chances are he's going to drive away. Unfortunately for Dr. Dre, he's so haunted by memories — from N.W.A. to solo success to discovering Eminem to his own family matters — he loses control of the steering wheel and winds up at death's door. With that as the backstory, perhaps to explain his multiple year absence from making music, director Allen Hughes (Menace II Society, The Book Of Eli) delivers a rehabilitation story, with Eminem giving a pep talk to get Dre re-animated. Finally with about a minute or so left, Dre finally heeds the call and shifts into gear, getting up and back on the mic. In lots of ways the video comes across as a throwback, partially due to the archival footage, but also due to a structure that's reminiscent of their cohort 50 Cent's "In Da Club" video. Not to mention that  it's a 7-minute epic and they actually totaled a real Ferrarri Modena, which is the kind of old-school, big-time, over-the-top music video extravagance you rarely see these days. --> watch "I Need A Doctor"

Director Tim Nackashi creates an pretty amazing interactive 360 degree panoramic environment where you can click and drag all around to follow a sci-fi story. Keep an eye out for Craig Wedren, who you hopefully remember from the classic band Shudder To Think. --> watch/explore "Are We" (There is a flattened-out version too, but go for the panoramic one)

IN DEPTH: Maroon 5 "Never Gonna Leave This Bed" (Tim Nackashi, dir.)

I guess when a rock star is dating a Victoria's Secret model, there's no sense looking any further when it comes time to cast for their music videos. Anne Vyalitsyna follows up her featured role in Maroon 5's "Misery" with "Never Gonna Leave This Bed," which finds her never leaving singer/boyfriend Adam Levine's bed, no matter where it is. --> watch "Never Gonna Leave This Bed"

Tim Nackashi, director: "Maroon 5 wanted to explore the chaotic feeling of having private lives in public, and when we got to sharing ideas, it became clear that they were into the idea of going beyond shooting a straight video. They were willing to actually go out and do something real – a stunt of sorts, or some kind of performance art. So we came up with the idea of putting Maroon 5 in a plexiglass truck which we would take around to heavily trafficked areas of Los Angeles and basically have them 'pop-up' unexpectedly in the middle of a pedestrian scene – like objects on display behind glass. And to take the exploration of intimate life and public life further, we decided to put Adam Levine and his girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna in beds which would be placed out in the open at a few monumental locations around LA – the Santa Monica Pier, Mann’s Chinese Theater and out in front of Teddy’s/Roosevelt Hotel at night – in addition to transporting them throughout the city in the plexi-truck.

We wanted to see how people would react and what they might do unprompted, so we hired no extras or actors, and we didn’t announce anything about this until the band started tweeting about their experiences on the day of the shoot.

I didn’t really know how the whole event was going to feel, but I was pretty sure that it would surprise some people and get a lot of gawking as people passed by. Fortunately things built up to be pretty huge and chaotic -- especially at the Chinese Theater when there must have been hundreds of passersby gathered around just to look at Adam and Anne in a bed.

I think Adam and Anne felt really exposed and I was almost scared for them at certain points. It was a pretty brave thing to do."

WATCH IT: Modest Mouse "Fly Trapped In A Jar" (Saline Project, dir.)

This candy-colored and frenetically insane performance video took a long time to get officially released — an early version of the video was leaked, then pulled, then shitcanned for a couple years, but then reworked and now released with the full blessing of Modest Mouse (and their label). The final video a day-glo vibe and cuteness that would fit in with kiddy programming, if not for the hopping mad Isaac Brock character that leads the alien band. --> watch "Fly Trapped In A Jar (An Alien Musical)"

WATCH IT: Dr Dre "Kush" (Joseph Kahn, dir.)

From Chronic to Kush... Although Dr. Dre has been fairly ubiquitous recently through his Beats By Dre audio empire, it's been over a decade since he last stepped out as a solo artist on The Chronic 2001. "Kush" is part retro and part futuristic: On the audio side, it reconnects Dre with Snoop Dogg, but also brings Dre into the auto-tune modernity of Akon. Videowise, Joseph Kahn spotlights a damn beautiful frozen-in-time effect, one that he first played with in his U2 + Lara Croft "Elevation" video, but takes to a whole other level here. But mostly, this futuristic and impressive video is a throwback in scope (and probably budget) to when videos had to be big big big.  --> watch "Kush"

WATCH IT: Eminem/Rihanna "Love The Way You Lie" (Joseph Kahn, dir.)

As if Eminem and Rihanna together wasn't enough star power for a music video, you also get Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan as the two attracting/opposing forces in a literally combustible relationship. Director Joseph Kahn oversees all this hotness, capturing the two lovers as they run very hot and very cold on their way to an incendiary finish. In a word: Hot. --> watch "Love The Way You Lie"
