"I stole my sister's boyfriend. It was all whirlwind, heat, and flash. Within a week we killed my parents and hit the road." — from the Sonic YouthGoo album cover by artist Raymond Pettibone.
Christopher Mills delivers another hazy journey into the recesses of the mind with Metric. Whereas their last audio/video collab was a morbid casket ride into the ground, "Expecting To Fly" is an express train within your skull. --> watch "Expecting To Fly"
If Sleigh Bells sounds to you like an epic battle between loud distorted machine guitars and sweet siren human melodies, then this video tale of man vs machine is a perfect fit. The concept at play here is essentially a dorky rewrite of a Rocky montage, in which a young challenger to apply Eye Of The Tiger philosophy so he can win a game of computerized chess. Director Bo Mirosseni shows a similar hustle with the video itself, having made it unsolicited without any band involvement.
Are all your calls collect in the afterlife? This Metric video from director/artist Christopher Mills doesn't tackle those kinds of post-mortem communication issues as he uses animation to follow a casket to its final resting spot. --> watch "Collect Call"
The same juxtaposition of heavy menace and sweet melodies that makes Sleigh Bells work like a charm is similarly at play in this video directed by Phil Pinto. "Infinity Guitars" has singer Alexis Krauss and guitarist Derek Miller taking a walk on the wild side that culminates in a guitar inferno. --> watch "Infinity Guitars"
Turns out dogs are no different than bored teens in the suburbs: They meet up, they run around, they sneak into a neighbor's yard to hit the pool. Any other connections you might make — including those of the defecatory category — are left to your imagination. Director Mike Juneau keeps it clean and just presents it as a dog day afternoon in this video for indie rockers Tokyo Police Club. (PS: You can own the video, and two remixes of the track by donating as little as $1 to the ASPCA through TokyoPoliceClub.com. All proceeds go to the ASPCA. And, of course, no dogs were harmed in the making of this video.) --> watch "Boots Of Danger (Wait Up)"
