Apparently back in 2000, Vh1 had producer/musician Jon Brion make a pilot for a variety show.
So, Brion had his friend and collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson direct it.
And they had their friends Elliott Smith and Brad Mehldau appear as musical guests.
In an alternate universe, The Jon Brion Show got picked up, became a big hit and history as we know it is insanely different.
