Though the pairing is young, the chemistry between Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay, the duo at the center of Toronto's July Talk, sends sparks from the stage directly into the audience. Recalling the masculine/feminine dynamic of bands as diverse as The Civil Wars and The Kills, July Talk explore a sound rooted in roots and Americana with the dual-voice charm of Johnny and June, the creepy quirkiness of Tom Waits, and the hooks of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. It’s a very unique blend that borrows from different decades and domains, though where those influences begin and end is cleverly disguised.
July Talk paired up with All Axis in New York at the tiny Rockwood Hall Stage during CMJ and rocked the more-than-capacity crowd.
