As far as look and logic go, the video for Arthur Rigby and the Baskervylles’ latest release bears far more in common with the dreamscape than it does waking reality. With heavily symbolic elements and a landscape that radiates colour and light, the whole piece is suffused with a degree of surreality that somehow seamlessly fits with the intimate sound of Arthur Rigby.
The film – in a fantastical manner – deals with the difficulties and perceived terrors of growing into adolescence and being driven to dice with the opposite sex.
As two children cautiously edge ever closer to each other, the video frames the familiar youthful dilemma of trying to understand early romantic interactions, whilst conflicting ideas of how such moves ought to occur hang over those moments like a spector.
What’s also indirectly pulled into focus by the intensely optimistic end however is the opposite of this dream-like scenario; the times in which wishes aren’t fulfilled and demons aren’t vanquished.
