There's an interesting article at Forbes.com today by Peter Kafka entitled "Music Labels Finally Cash In On Videos."
It's highly recommended, especially in light of the new WMG wireless deal with MTV and UMG's recent decision to no longer send free music videos to broadcast programmers.
Warner Music Group has licensed its music video library to MTV for use in the network's mobile phone programming initiatives. This non-exclusive pact will allow MTV to include full-length videos from WMG artists in programming they will provide to cell phone users. Planned programming includes repurposed versions of existing MTV properties like VH1 Driven, plus content created specifically for the wireless space.
This paid MTV wireless service will allow customer to either individually purchase or subscribe to MTV's programming. WMG will receive a portion of the generated revenue.
