Director Jason Beattie on Miguel "Adorn"

Wolf Mask Miguel

Jason Beattie, director

"The video is an exploration of Miguel’s subconscious. While each of the set-ups may not make sense individually; as a whole they reinforce this narrative of Miguel struggling to find this one woman.

When we dream, we are creating new images. They may be recycled from memories throughout the day, fears, desires, fantasies, but for the most part they are their own bizarre narratives. For this video, I wanted to parallel the color structure of creating an image in the real world alongside creating images in a dream world. This is why the first images of the video use cyan, magenta, yellow and black. These are the four colors that are used in color printing. You will see these same four colors reinforced throughout each set up of the video. In these first clips we see a car, Miguel, a bathroom, a water fountain and a woman. These are the memories that are used to create his dream.

A dream, much like the video, leaves quite a few elements that are meant for the dreamer to untangle on their own. My favorite elements involve The Wolf, but those might be best explained by Miguel himself."
