NEW RELEASE: Smashing Pumpkins "Taratula" (live)

concert unique You could rightly claim that the Smashing Pumpkins reunion is not a reunion at all, merely a Billy Corgan solo album with Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chambelain that seeks to recapture his former band's glory. But, when you consider that Corgan wrote all the songs — except for a handful co-written with former guiarist James Iha — played all the instruments except for drums on the band's breakthrough Siamese Dream, and was always very clearly the one in charge of everything: You realize that this is a lot more valid than the Axl Rose circus that's being called Guns N' Roses. So, your take on the reunion probably depends on your outlook on life and the band. If you're a miserable indie fuck who likes to complain about everything and anything: Enjoy. If you've been patiently waiting for something that at least approximates the Smashing Pumpkins your favorite guitar hero and songwriter: Enjoy. This teaser video for "Tarantula" follows the  the basic live concert video formula, with the twist being that this the band's first "reunion" concert, held in Paris on May 22, 2007. More interesting than the actual performance scenes — except for maybe the little pixie outfits —  is the pandemonium that Corgan sets off among his fans both on-and-off-stage. It's a reminder that there ain't too many true rock stars left and, whether you love him or hate him, Corgan just may be able to fill a void of personality in the alternative rock world. --> watch "Tarantula"
