Bonnie "Prince" Billy, aka Will Oldham, is known in indie rock circles as the bard of indie-folk, exploring the edges of Appalachian folk and other roots music in a steady stream of releases. To most everyone else, he's probably known as the "other guy" in the Zach Galifianakis video for Kanye West "Can't Tell Me Nothing." Oldham's new album Beware is his most straight-ahead record in a while and the video for "I Am Goodbye" is as good a "hello" as you're gonna get to his modern update of what critic Greil Marcus calls The Old, Weird America. In keeping with that, the video is certainly simple and weird: The hirsute singer-songwriter walks toward the camera through the streets of a small city (presumably his hometown, Louisville, KY).
