Some music video directors,
like Hype Williams, have become stars larger than the artists they are
promoting. Others are famous enough as performers (like Fred Durst, at one point) that
when they try their hands at directing it lends a little shine to a new artist.
For Game’s new single "Camera Phone," actor/director Kevin Connolly (aka E on HBO’s
hit Entourage) isn’t required to
bring attention to an unknown performer, but rather capture a slick and
charismatic performance from Game and guest vocalist Ne-Yo. Connolly does a
more that serviceable job, and has clearly had practice dealing with the media
frenzy and the Hollywood life. The finished video is a polished clip but, unfortunately, does
not deliver the expected Jeremy Piven cameo (with or without tainted sushi). [review by Doug Stern] --> watch "Camera Phone"
