YouTube Music Awards Announced; Spike Jonze is Creative Director

Announcing the first-ever YouTube Music Awards

The inaugural YouTube Music Awards was announced today and the talent line-up is impressive — Lady Gaga, Eminem, Arcade Fire — but I have a feeling you'll be more blown away by who they have as the show's creative director: Spike Jonze.

The groundbreaking video and film director will be overseeing the show with a unique stamp, telling the LA Times, "Instead of bands performing to an audience on a stage, we're going to have a warehouse with all these different sets and try to make live music videos throughout the night. The idea is let's get a bunch of interesting artists together and have a night that’s all about making things."

The YouTube Music Awards will be livestreamed (via YouTube, of course) November 3 from NYC's warehouse/event space Pier 36, with additional live performances from around the world leading up to the show.

Actor Jason Schwartzman hosts — who, like Arcade Fire has a pre-existing Spike Jonze connection — and VICE Media and Sunset Entertainent producing.
