An interesting twist on the director's reel: Instead of just a trailer of unrelated work, Canadian director Stephano Barberis cut his work into something closer to a short film, complete title sound and sound design (including, of course, a few blasts of that Inception foghorn).
Stephano Barberis, director: I thought that every director has a reel, so maybe turning the reel into a work of art unto itself would make it stand out even more. Cutting the reel up in sections makes the viewer not noticed that 10 minutes has passed. I did all the editing and sound design as well (I was going to use my own electronic songs but I thought that would be "me" overkill!). I also have an interest in getting into features so this lends itself more to that. I did the same thing with my last reel "Montage" in 2011 but it was made up 100% of 35mm footage and the only footage I could use from that this time was for the horror "interlude" (the grain and distortion to bring it to 1920x1080 worked for it thematically).
