Alternative-pop chanteuse/visual artist Daisy and The Dark has self-directed the video for new single, Red Planet, working closely with DoP/Editor Donovan Jones to create a bewitchingly cinematic companion piece to the title track of her debut EP.
Magic is a leading inspiration for the London/Cambridge based singer-songwriter – real name Sarah Kayte Foster - who trained as an actress and previously topped the UK classical charts with the Mediaeval Baebes; ‘I like to create songs and visuals that have a sense of other worldliness about them; a dream like circus, a haunted house - something secret and intensified’.
Inspired by her passion for cinema, Daisy and The Dark’s songs are emotive, lush and layered - ethereal vocals floating over strings, synths and harmonies - and, introducing this as ‘a visual art project as much as it is a collection of songs’, Sarah relished the opportunity to direct her first music video, saying:
'We started with the concept of the song: "A strange story of love and light entering a dark world". It was important that we were nowhere we recognised - we could be in space, inside a dark heart, in someone’s mind… The relationship between 'Daisy' and the various sources of light she's interacting with begins in a very measured way - slowly, carefully - and throughout the song grows more free and flowing until it shatters into something wild. I worked with Don to try and create an escalation into that intense high voltage energy of love crashing into your world; unconfined, magical and expansive.'
Daisy and The Dark has collaborated with a team of digital innovators on the Red Planet EP to create a unique interactive app experience. This will be officially released, alongside standard physical and digital formats, on 10th July.
