SHOT: Devendra Banhart - Galen Pehrson, director

Director/designer Galen Pehrson recently finished a shoot for folk singer Devendra Banhart. In keeping with Banhart's vibe, everything in "I Feel Just Like A Child" will have a handmade feel to it. The footage was shot on vintage S16 cameras (see photo below of Banhart performing for the camera) and the animation is all hand drawn and shot with a vintage Bolex. The live action sequences were filmed in Amsterdam; The animation was done in Providence, RI.

The video's imagery will include multi-breasted lions, psychedelic Shiva totem poles and teeth, lots of teeth. "I Feel Just like A Child" will support Banhart's new album, Cripple Crow.

Yes: Greatest Video Hits - This DVD hits collection runs the gamut from videos for early prog rock tracks "Don't Kill The Whale" and "Madrigal" on up to 80's MTV classics like "Owner Of A Lovely Heart." The early videos haven't aged very well, but that's part of the charm. Band members introduce each video in interview footage shot during a recent tour. PS: Two of the included videos were directed by Steven Soderbergh.

So, I reached out to the Motion Theory directing team and struck up a little email interrogation about the video.

ps: If you haven't seen it yet, watch "Girl" in Windows Media or Real Player.
