WATCH IT: The Ettes "Excuse" (Tom Scharpling, dir.)

Making sure every dollar of the budget winds up on-screen is for suckers. Director Tom Scharpling — or, at least the fictional version of him played in this video for The Ettes by comedian Patton Oswalt — knows better: Scharpling/Oswalt (Scharwalt?) opens the video with an apology for spending all the money on personal items and then challenges the audience to imagine the awesomeness that would have ideally replaced the green screen and the ambitious storyboards. And in Scharpling's defense: I would guess that the vast majority of the budget did indeed get on-screen. --> watch "Excuse"

WATCH IT: Lil Wayne "How To Love" (Chris Robinson, dir.)

There are choices in life, but there's also lots outside your control. Lil Wayne goes deep on this video for "How To Love," showing two different outcomes for a young girl whose life nearly ends before it even begins. One outcome has her raised in an abusive household and ends up with her stripping, hooking and getting some bad news from a doctor. In an alternate reality, everything is different, including the news from the doctor. --> watch "How To Love"
