Best Music Videos of April 2012

A few days late and a few videos short? We shall see...

The April crop of videos that struck me as keepers was small, yet solid. That said, I feel like I'm missing stuff, so please use the comments to offer up your faves and if warranted I'll do a follow-up playlist of your picks.

PS: It took a lot of self-control to not use a Waste Land reference here.

WATCH IT: Gramatik "Solidified" (Brad Hasse, dir.)

There be monsters in this video for dubstep act Gramatik, sometimes showing up as shadows and sometimes as a raging dragon that looks like a Chinese New Years firework gone seriously awry. All of the monsters except for the dragon were done the very old-fashioned/organic way, via a silhoutte/bokeh effect that director Brad Hasse created by holding paper cutouts held directly in front of the camera lens. --> watch "Solidified"

LAMVF with Eric Wareheim This Friday/Saturday May 4/5 in LA

The 2nd Annual Los Angeles Music Video Festival is slated for this Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at the Downtown Independent Theater.

Director Eric Wareheim of Tim And Eric fame will be the keynote speaker on Friday, screening some of his favorite videos with key collaborators on-hand. Also scheduled are panel discussions, video screenings, a Best of the Fest awards ceremony, afterparties and more.
