THE OTHER SIDE: Dormtainment "Ass On The Internet" (Mike Cooke, dir.)

THE OTHER SIDE is the underbelly of the music video world, as discovered by contibutor Bryan Reisberg. Some of it's amateur, some bizarre, some awful, some great, but hopefully all of it compelling, or at least amusing. Or appalling, perhaps.

Ahh, college...

Directors HARRYS on Toro Y Moi "So Many Details"

Hmmm. Hype Williams directing a video for Bryan Ferry sounds like a genius idea...

HARRYS, directors: "When we heard the track it became clear that Chaz [Bundick, Toro Y Moi] was embodying a character.  There is lots of hyperbole in this song, and we wanted to carry that into the video and create an aesthetic that exaggerated a certain lifestyle.  It takes a lot from 90's rap videos but also shares some stylistic elements more in line with European art house films from the 70's and 80's.   We chose to shoot it on 35mm film with anamorphic lenses because the video had to look like a real movie.  Big ups to Hype Williams and Bryan Ferry." --> watch "So Many Details"

WATCH IT: She & Him "Baby, It's Cold Outside" (Elliot Dear, dir.)

The Holiday season is already full of sweet emotions and warm fuzzies - so who is more perfect than animated versions of  She & Him to give that spirit a cleverly ironic spin? Silverlake's favorite imagined couple does put a twist on the classic flirtation song with Zoey playing the aggressive role - even resorting to Kathy Bates-style tools and lawn implements to keep M. on the premises. It all ends up okay and no one has to ask Siri for a weather report. --> watch "Baby, It's Cold Outside"

PROFILE: Dave Hussey, colorist

Maybe you're a cursory reader of Video Static, who only occasionally drills down into the nitty gritty credits, and you 've been wondering, "What's a colorist?"

Who better to explain that Dave Hussey, a colorist with over 25 years experience and a resume that ranges from Michael Jackson "Black Or White" to Lady Gaga "Bad Romance," and literally thousands more. It's really not a stretch to say that if you've ever seen a music video, you've seen his work.

Dave was kind enought to talk about what he does, in addition to touching upon some of his recent favorites.
