In Memory of Stop-Motion Pioneer Ray Harryhausen

Hollywood FX legend and stop-motion pioneer Ray Harryhausen passed away today. He was 92.

The closest Harryhausen came to a music video was the  2008 Bloc Party clip "One Month Off," which took footage from his late '40s and early '50s Fairy Tale and Mother Goose short films and gave them an anti-war overhaul. (see below for the video embed and a quote from the directors about the video)

Team Spirit "MRDR It's Ok" (Hannes Elltorp & Johannes Helgelin, dir.)

Team Spirit - MRDR It's Ok

This is "MRDR It's Ok", episode 2 out of 5 in Team Spirit's animated music video series . It starts out where the last one left off — "Jesus, He's Alright" — with Satan chaining up the band, forcing them to play at his wedding down in Hell. Here you'll see Satan getting his ass kicked by Team Spirit themselves!

This piece is directed and created by the Swedish animation duo HannesJohannes consisting of Hannes Elltorp and Johannes Helgelin.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Mosquito" (B. Shimbe Shim, dir.)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito

Shame on any reviewer who takes the easy way out and says this Yeah Yeah Yeahs video sucks. Too easy.

Director B. Shimbe Shim — who also created the buggy album art for Mosquito — goes for an internet art experience: Setting up a sort of PIP web-chat where a young boy watches a skeeter engorge itself on his hand. Things reach unexpected psychedelic heights — and there's the smashing conclusion — but it's basically just a bug sucking blood for the length of the song.
