"You're nobody 'til somebody kills you" is a frightening hip-hop mantra, mainly because there's unfortunately a kernel of truth to it. Director Christopher Sims conjures up the ghosts of 2Pac and Biggie —casting Diddy in a role makes that connection even clearer — in a cinematic tale of a complicated hit.

Ben Watt "Hendra" (Rahim Moledina, dir.)

In January 2014, musician, DJ, singer and writer Ben Watt (Everything But The Girl) teamed up with friend and acclaimed Irish film-maker and critic Mark Cousins ('The Story of Film: an Odyssey') to find a new talent to make a short film for the title-track for Watt's new solo album, 'Hendra' - his first for thirty-one years. After running a treatment competition, the winning script came from London-based screenwriter and Slow Cinema devotee, Rahim Moledina.

Part of the Major Lazer charm is that they never quite play it straight: So, while this does come across as something close to a typical dancehall video, we also get some extra aerobic twerking and a few pet goats.

``Hers``, the latest from Montreal producer Tommy Kruise, is a wash of warm, heady atmospherics reminiscent of a DJ Screw tape warped by radio feedback; it sounds like what being based feels like. It’s the video, though, that’s transcendent. Directed by Martin Pariseau, it presents a day in the life of Bogdan Chiochiu, a real-life, music-obsessed fan of Kruise’s music with Asperger syndrome.
