GIVE LISTEN HELP: Pablove

This is off-topic from the usual "all video, all the time" but it involves a good friend, a good cause and a bunch of good bands. And it's Thanksgiving.*

Jeff Castelaz of Dangerbird Records/Management/Publishing will be on KCRW at 8pm this evenning, Wednesday Nov 26, to discuss Give Listen Help, double-CD is a benefit compilation created in support of the Pablove Foundation.

Pablove The Pablove Foundation was established in honor of Pablo Castelaz, the 5-year-old son of Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment. On May 17, 2008, Pablo was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of cancer that strikes less than 500 American kids a year.

In the past months, Pablo has endured four surgeries, resulting with the removal of his right kidney and a third of his left kidney. He is currently on a nine-month chemotherapy regimen and an 11-day radiation treatment, equating to months in and out of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), and countless hours in the oncology clinic. Every penny raised through the Pablove Foundation will go to CHLA, specifically directed toward play rooms, cancer research at the CHLA Saban Research Institute and to the new hospital, set to open in 2009.

The Give Listen Help CD set is currently available for sale exclusively through January 2009 at Urban Outfitters, thanks to Filter Magazine. Some of indie and alternative rock’s most recognizable names donated new, unreleased, live and remixed songs for the first disc, including Radiohead, Oasis, Jack Johnson, Garbage, Bloc Party, Rilo Kiley and CSS. The second disc consists of donated tracks from the Dangerbird family, including Silversun Pickups, The Dears, Sea Wolf and Darker My Love.

If you’d like to learn more about Pablo, please check out the PABLOg, where the Castelaz crew have been sharing all aspects of the experience in loving detail.

If you'd like to give some money to the cause — $13.88 out of every $14.99 goes to the charity! — and get a good album in return, visit UrbanOutfitters.com to Give Listen Help.
