NEWS: SXSW Video Preview

SXSW Those who prefer their music on-screen, as opposed to on-stage, will still find plenty of options when the film component of SXSW launches on March 10. In addition to video screenings, many music video directors and music-themed films are on the schedule. Highlights include:

  • Punk Like Me Director Zach Merck's documentary Punk Like Me about a writer/family man who forms the punk rock mariachi band Carne Asada specifically to go on the Warped Tour and lives his dream
  • Awesome: I Fuckin' Shot That capturres a Beastie Boys concert at Madison Square Garden in footage shot by actual audience members.
  • loudQUIETloud documents the triumphant reunion of the Pixies. It was directed by Steven Cantor and Matthew Galkin
  • Director JL Aronson's Danielson: A Family Movie provides a look at the utterly unique and bizarre indie act The Danielson Family.
  • Video director Risa Machuca — best known as a second unit director and collaborator for Chris Robinson — will be showing Shortstop, a film she co-directed with Fanny Veliz
  • Directing team Terri Timely will represent with the short film A Persistant Vision
  • Arno Salters unveils the animated short Playtime, which is basically a music video for the electronic group General Electrics

SXSW's music video showcase will boast clips from Laura Veirs, Plastalina Mosh, The Willowz, Sleater-Kinney and many other acts.
