NEWS: MTV VMA Nominees and Performers

Nominees and an initial slate of performers have been announced for the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, to be broadcast live on August 31 from NYC's Radio City Music Hall. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shakira lead all nominees with seven nods apiece, while Madonna, Panic! At the Disco and Christina Aguilera also scored multiple nominations. A full list of nominations appears after the jump.

In one significant change to previous VMAs, fans will be able to vote online for their favorites in all non-technical categories. And, while a host has still not been announced, the initial slate of performers includes Panic! At the Disco, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, T.I., Ludacris and The Killers.

UPDATED: The 10 Years video nominated has been confirmed to be the second version, directed by Kevin Kerslake. Pertinent credits have also been inserted for all the technical credits (editor, choreographer, etc.). Full details can be found at the official MTV VMA press release.
