WATCH IT: Drake "I Find Your Love" (Anthony Mandler, dir.)

Guns, Gals and Ganja. Drake flexes his acting chops in this moody bit of island gangster noir shot on-location in Jamaica. Director Anthony Mandler sets the rapper/actor up in a classic love triangle doublecross in which a sexy girl has caught the attention of both Drake and the bad guy gangster, played here by dancehall star Mavado. --> watch "I Find Your Love"

I do not believe that Anthony is clearly getting his point across in Drake's video. The storylines are not cohesive and the endings/revelations are very rushed. The concepts for the treatments are great (both "Over" and "Find Your Love"), however, on screen they fail in clear execution of what the thought/idea is. I think most come away confused, as the general consensus is that the concepts must be explained in order for them to be understood. And that should not be the case. (Find Your Love's storyline was easy to understand, but the cinematic element to tell a film like story failed and was once again rushed) Yet this is only my and a few others opinions. I really like Drizzy as an artist, but am not digging these videos so much at all.

Normally, I'm not a fan of Anthony Mandler. And I do think the "Over" video was a missed opportunity for such an amazing and huge track. HOWEVER, I truly enjoyed this spot - and now I feel much more confident in Mandler's narrative directorial ability. I guess you could say I'm looking forward to his feature film, not so much another video. I didn't need this to be explained, it's a simple concept with good execution acting and cinematography. The only thing it's lacking? Subtitles.

I love it. I love cinematography and editing. beautifully told. for those who complain about how "rush" the video seems, do u watch music videos? lol. in most cases, the story w/i a video is drowned with fast-paced visual effects and excitement. the pacing in "FYL" is well-timed. let's be real here. I love it. Omar
