WATCH IT: Delorean "Dear Langston" (Sami Abdou, dir.)

Director Sami Abdou of the Faux Real creative crew brings a touch of high art to match the similarly high brow aspirations of "Dear Langston" ( a shout-out, of course, to the poet Langston Hughes). Crisp footage of rapper 5th Ave from Delorean delivering rhymes to the camera around town is mixed with on-the-scene portraiture shots that reference various classic painting (the most obvious, i.e. the only one I would cite with any confidence, being  Girl With A Pearl Earring).

WATCH IT: Florence + The Machine "Dog Days Are Over" (LEGS, dir.)

Imagine Lady Gaga if she did Quaaludes and psychedelics, instead of whatever it is that fuels her Gaganess. Or, maybe, imagine the Ronettes if they were blue Hindu aliens. Or, just watch this strange and stylish video from directing team LEGS for the ethereal, yet quirky Florence + The Machine. --> watch "Dog Days Are Over"

SXSW (and Music Videos)...

Video Static will be in Austin for the annual SXSW music festival through the weekend... Updates will be sporadic. Sparse. Possibly non-existent. (My twitter account will probably be way more active, even though it's occasionally/often off the usual beat of music videos.)

That said, SXSW does have a music video component and the following clips were selected to be shown at the 2010 edition. And it should be enough to keep you busy for at least a little while.
