Warren Fu on Julian Casablancas Video / LAMVF Screening Wednesday Night

Director Warren Fu on Julian Casablancas "Phrazes Of The Young" —

"Phrazes for the Young isn't really a music video, but it still serves the same purpose as a promo piece. I'm especially proud of it because the spontaneous and collaborative way that it came about.  Julian Casablancas had played me some rough demos and an early instrumental of a song called 'Bulletproof Glass' caught my ear. It gave me an epic Chariots of Fire vibe, so I told him, 'We should announce your album with this instrumental, no singing, with the title sliding slowly across the screen like the beginning of Rocky.'  He had been saving a list of visual similarities between atoms / solar systems, trees / nuclear explosions, rivers / arteries, hurricanes / galaxies etc.  I convinced him that this would be the perfect piece bring those ideas to life visually, to make it about universal truths.  In our numerous collaborations, this is probably at the top of both of our lists.

Director Warren Fu will be screening and talking about some of his favorite videos at a LAMVF event Wednesday, January 23 9p — 11:30p at the Downtown Independent Theatre in Los Angeles. A Q&A session will follow with a few of his collaborators.

Admission is $5 at the door, or free with RSVP via this event info page...

And, if you can't make it, visit his Vimeo page to check out more of his videos, including his latest for The Killers...
