Description: "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is everything a music video should be. Yes, the band looks great in their performance footage and, yes, the narrative elements are so compelling that you would be forgiven if you thought they were pulled from a feature film. But, what really makes this special is how director Samuel Bayer and Green Day have the gall to believe that a video can and should be more than a mere visual placeholder for a song. This epic mini-movie adds a whole new layer of meaning to the song's lyrics as it tells the story of a young couple that gets split apart when the boyfriend unexpectedly enlists in the armed forces and gets shipped off to Iraq. Although there are occasional pauses for dialogue between the two lovers (played with conviction by Jamie Bell and Evan Rachel Wood), the song itself increases in grandeur with each minute of this seven minute masterpiece. It's an ambitious piece of work that will definitely cause controversy with its honest look at the true emotions that are probably felt when someone enlists in the army during wartime .
