NEW RELEASE: Interpol "The Heinrich Maneuver"

InterpolInterpol If there's anything one can say about the one-take, super slow-motion video, it's that it's hard to forget. The technique has only been done in music videos a few times before — by the likes of  Spike Jonze for Wax, Daniel Askill for Placebo and Peter Fowler for Pixies— and the impact is so solid each time it becomes hard to ever detach the song from its video. It's not surprising, since you're essentially watching a single image unfold for three minute. So here comes the latest entry: Interpol's "The Heinrich Maneuver," as directed by E. Elias Merhige. It's a slow, reverse zoom-out of a weirdly typical Hollywood scene of a pretty girl sadly distracted by a cell phone conversation and her own fabulousness. While three on-lookers react as they should to the video's looming conclusion, it's not enough to save this Hollywood victim as Merhige rather brutally brings his point home after 3 1/2 minutes.
