DNA Director Francis Lawrence was the big winner at last week's MVPA Awards, which spotlights excellence in all areas of music video production. Lawrence was named Director of the Year and also won the Best Direction of a Female Artist and Pop Video of the Year categories for Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For." Anonymous Content director Mark Romanek and his amazing Jay-Z video "99 Problems" were singled out for Video of the Year, Best Direction of a Male Artist and Hip-Hop Video of the Year.
Show highlights included an impromptu and passionate speech from Kanye West and a truly alternative acceptance from Spike Jonze on winning Alternative Video of the Year for Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Y Control." Also, as reported earlier, Jeff Ayeroff, Peter Care and Jake Scott all received honorary awards.
