WATCH IT: Cage The Elephant "Aberdeen" (Isaac Rentz, dir.)

Maybe monsters aren't so mean. Maybe they're just clumsy. Director Isaac Rentz goes the claymation route in his latest video for Cage The Elephant, delivering a sweet sad tale about a misunderstood Godzilla and some triggerhappy humans.

Isaac Rentz, director: This video was truly a labor of love. We worked 16-18 hours days in an animation studio for three weeks. Some days we'd only get five seconds worth of animation. The band wanted the video to be funny and morbid and heartbreaking all at the same time, so the biggest challenge of all was making sure the tone didn't swing wildly all over the place. It's a lot to stuff into a three minute video, but the band was great about giving me creative control. Their only stipulation was that they really wanted to see the monster step on a dog. They love dogs, but they thought the idea was hilarious.

I never comment on anything, but this video was truly great. Great story, great characters, and great animation. Good job Isaac.

I was spellbound by this music video. Not many people do clay animation anymore. It would be great to see it come back to the U.S. It just looks so stark, and brightly colored, and wonderful. The fingerprints you don't get in any other animation medium. The one thing I never think about in something like this is story, but this one had a lot of heart and a good message. Great animation, and above all else- fantastic directing. Hoping for more like this. -Don
