WATCH IT: Summerlad "City Of Noise"

Summerlad2 Inspirations abound in this unexpectedly amazing video for Calgary rockers Summerlad. There's a touch of Magritte surreality with the besuited bowler hat man and the blue skies and fluffy clouds just beyond the window. The main character seems culled from silent film central casting, looking and acting like the offspring of Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin, but sequestered in a post-modern music video house constructed out of bits from Michel Gondry [I'm thinking especially "Lucas With The Lid Off"] and Zbigniew Rybczynski circa the "Close (To The Edit)" video for Art Of Noise [which is a name quite similar to this song title of "City of Noise," eh?]. Those are all very big important names to throw around in relation to a video for a basically unknown band and director/vfx artist — and maybe that lack of expectations is the real key to why this worked so well for me —  but it certainly sets up clip creator Mitch Barany as somebody to watch in 2009. --> watch "City Of Noise"
