“A lot of times my music videos and commercials don’t really last. Maybe the photos will last.” - Sam Bayer
Famed music video director Samuel Bayer — his first video Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit," what was yours? — just opened his new art show, Diptychs & Triptychs, at Ace Gallery Beverly Hills. The photography exhibition collects sixteen large-scale nudes — each displayed in three prints — contrasted with two diptychs that offer close-up looks at faces.
The Hollywood Reporter has a recap of the show and an interview with Bayer —that's where the above quote comes from — which gets into the similarities and differences between Bayer's video and still work.
Diptychs And Triptychs runs at the Ace Gallery Beverly Hills through April 27.
