Christianoshi "Fake Blood" (Mikko Makela, dir.)

Christianoshi - Fake Blood

Dancer Benjamin Warbis of the renowned Michael Clark company stars as a sword-wielding medieval warrior prince in the music video for Christianoshi's single 'Fake Blood'. Directed by Mikko Makela (Wild Beast Productions), the black-and-white video brings together influences from classical sculpture and religious history into an exploration of anguished masculinity which sees Warbis's warrior confronting his own demons in a kind of sword-ballet.

Director Mikko Makela: "After the video for Christianoshi's previous single 'Trust', which dealt with a very specific contemporary phenomenon, I wanted to create something more timeless and simply aesthetic for Fake Blood. I was interested in the ideas of religious guilt and religiously justified violence, directed either externally or internally - as crusade or self-penitence - and more specifically the medieval idea of the holy warrior. Both religious passion and guilt seemed like interesting metaphors for the obsession the song discusses, the state of pain which the chorus speaks exemplified by medieval Christianity's cult of suffering. With DOP Tobias Marshall we wanted to craft a simple but beautiful look that gives prominence to the male physique and the dancer's movement, with the smoke and haze to represent the warrior's increasing lack of mental clarity."
