WATCH IT: Erykah Badu "Window Seat" (Coodie & Chike, dir.)

Don't get too excited when I say that Erykah Badu is fully naked in this ballsy (so to speak) video directed by  Coodie & Chike. Despite a titlescreen that avows a debt to the notorious Matt & Kim "let's get naked in Times Square" video, the footage of a Lincoln Continental convertible — very much like the one that served as JFK's presidential Limousine — and audio describing the scene back in 1963 as Kennedy's car made its eventful turn onto Elm Street in Dallas, TX. — the same location where this one-take stunt video was shot —  make it clear that Badu is really referencing something much more notorious. And she doesn't mean to shock you, or the innocent tourists and passersby that were in Dealey Square with mere nudity: She's going for something a little deeper and more surprising. After all, the inky blue blood that spills from her head doesn't spell "groupthink" by accident. --> watch "Window Seat" [note: YouTube links keep getting pulled. Watch the video at ErykahBadu.com]

Here are a few more deep ideas for Coodie & Chike's next videos: Erykah takes a crap on Lincoln's lap, then we recreate the face of Martin Luther King out of Erykah's boobs, finally Erykah is singing naked in a portable 1943 gas chamber. Vile, talentless garbage.

Damn..i wonder why people are so mad that they'll say the DUMBEST & STUPIDEST coments. I applaud freedom of speech but when its just plain dumb rhetoric then that person's freedom should be revoked..lol We had a great time filming this video and if we had a chance to do it all over again..WE WOULD!!!!

I think its a ballsy video (no pun intended). And I like how it takes a simple, yet brave and crazy stunt video and places it in a totally different context, to the point where the nudity is irrelevant. And I dont even think its a political statement. Its definitely not a comment on Kennedy. That said, I also like the idea of shitting on national monuments as a video concept, altho I shudder to think what one would do with the Washington Monument.

Kareem, having a great time is not an integral part of producing great work. Just because you had fun running around the street with the camera and your friends doesn't make a piece worthwhile, and is probably why it came out the way it did. Try being nervous and very very tired throughout, it usually gives by far better results. As far as freedom of speech goes, isn't it funny that you want to revoke mine; after shooting the above video? Steve :) I have a ton of ballsy concepts that involve shitting all around the place, I'll make sure to post them here as they take shape :) Thanks for running VS.

Consider me in for any/all shitting videos. Just make sure my calltime is right after my morning coffee. But: I think this video is a success. The actual footage has a Zapruder kind of quality that matches the concept. The Matt/Kim title and even the nudity is a red herring (so to speak)... That said, I can see somebody being offended. Thats a valid response. And its a video designed to elicit a response.

Steve you are too diplomatic :) Can I run an opinion feature on VS? :):)

Only on the web can I celebrate the defecation upon national monuments and be called diplomatic. Love it.
