Little did we know when we posted a video called "Gangnam Style" back in July. Heck, we didn't even know that Park Jae Sang went by the name PSY (and it wasn't until they said his name on the VMAs that we realized PSY was not to pronounced as an acronym). Even at that point the video had many millions of views, although merely a fraction of where it is now.
PSY "Gangnam Style" just became the most viewed video of all time on YouTube with well over 800 million views worldwide.
Asking why is probably as silly a question as, "Why is he doing a pony dance?" But our reason for posting the video back in the Summer was because it was about as over-the-top video we had seen in a long time. It was like a perfect music video reflected back at the music world, amplifying all those elements which usually get toned down. And the fact we couldn't tell if it was meant to be ironic or ridiculous (something which is still up for debate, I think) made it all the more intriguing.
So, sorry Bieber. PSY is the future.
