If it works for The Avengers, why can't work for the Universal stable of pop stars. Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj come together to electrify a hot city and show off some great teamwork/synergy.
Obviously an Excessive Machine would be a bit much — the line is drawn at boob rockets — but Ariana Grande gets surprising campy and unsurpisingly sexy in a sci-fi romp that occupies a galaxy somwhere between Barbarella and Flash Gordon.
Problem? Consider it solved. This is a coming out party for Ariana Grande as the pop star of the moment. And having the nearly as hot Iggy Azalea on-board also ain't a problem (and ditto for Big Sean in a cameo as The Whisperer).
Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande is well on her way to making a legit pop-star crossover, thanks to a song that hits you like the girl re-write of Bieber's "Baby" and a soaring voice that's in the zone of Mariah Carey. Director Ryan Pallotta engineers an all-day and crosstown dance party that takes Ariana and her crew into the night.
PS: Does the styling count as '80s retro/ironic if the singer was born in 1993?
Revenge is best served "stone cold" — sorry for the pun — in this conceptual piece, starring Mika and new bestie Ariana Grande, where and director Chris Marrs Piliero takes familiar themes about outcasts in high school and gives them a twist. Especially in the last twenty seconds.
Side note: Start counting now how many kids will want a talking Mini Cooper when they get older.
