Bastardgeist "Coast" (Robert Ruiz de Castilla, dir.)

Bastardgeist - Coast (Official Video)

Coast is the second single taken from Infinite Lives, the new album by Chicago's Bastardgeist, aka Joel Midden.  The track is based around a looped orchestral stab, building into a lurching, symphonic piece with electronic rumbles, and layered washes of Midden's wavering falsetto.  The video recently premiered at the Court Métrage Short Film Corner during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

The video, produced by Five Penn Films (www.fivepennfilms.com), was directed by Robert Ruiz de Castilla, previously known for his music video work with Kaada and Eight Bit Tiger. Robert had this to say: "We tried to create a visual that could take a hold your eyes as much as Bastardgeist's song is able to take a hold your ears the first time you hear it.  The song 'Coast' is so poignant and cinematic in nature that the narrative of this piece wrote itself within the first couple of listens".  Coast was shot in the streets of downtown Chicago.

Says Joel Midden, of the track & video: "my favorite part about the piece that FPF put together is that it retains this feeling of cautious optimism, which is what I intended with the song".

Bastardgeist's new album has found him playing alongside such local talents and luminaries as Julianna Barwick, The Drum, and Sunjacket, and the album continues to work it's way to an ever-growing audience via blog posts and word-of-mouth.

The album is available on vinyl and download via Bandcamp, and was released in 2013 by UK indie label Brainlove Records.
