William Kennedy, director: "The track is incredibly emotive. There’s a real sense of vulnerability behind the sweeping scale of the music. A stream of really exciting and disparate images came to mind when I first listened. But I felt the track deserved a character-driven piece. I wanted to make a very personal film about being and young and in love. I didn’t want to go down the linear narrative route and so I tried to set a mood for the film as a whole by drawing together some of the really striking images that the track inspired. I wanted the fear and the vulnerability in this video to feel real and so I drew on my own personal fears. The fragility of the human body is something that has always terrified me ever since I was a child. I guess that’s why I love the body horror genre, it feels very grounded in reality. Films like Andrzej Żuławski’s Possession were hugely influential on my approach to this project. I wanted the corruption of the physical body to reflect the emotional trauma. We can see the main character losing control of his mind as well as his body."
