Animalia, the moniker of Australian-born Toronto-based artist Jill Krasnicki, wrote Paradise after “what seemed like an endless news stream of young people losing their lives through gun violence”. When asked about the video, Krasnicki shared her thoughts on the video;
“For the video to come out how we intended, we needed a space that was big enough to work in and one that didn’t have any light seeping in from the outside world. My friend Karol, who shot the video, lives in Peterborough, so I travelled from Toronto first thing in the morning and we shot the video in the unfinished basement of The Spill.
It was important to me to represent the emotional weight of the track visually and with a hand held flashlight as the only lighting source for this video, I think we were able to create a space that summed up both the overwhelming emotion and the complete feeling of emptiness the song was written from.”
Paradise itself is a brooding, electronic, piano-pop track which showcases Krasnicki’s beautifully haunting vocals. Directed and shot by Karol Orzechowski, this video is the follow-up to her highly praised Brandon Cronenberg directed video for Little Earth.
