Big TV on... Maroon 5 and Lauryn Hill

Directing team Big TV! — directors Andy Delaney and Monty Whitebloom — walk us through two of their biggest music videos: Maroon 5 "Sunday Morning" and Lauryn Hill "Doo Wop (That Thing)."

And it should also be noted that Monty — who was kind enough to chat with us about these two gems — tells a good story.

2012 SXSW Video Screenings and Competition

As anyone with an internet connection knows by now:  The annual SXSW Festival is underway in Austin, TX, running separate music, film and interactive programs. I will be repping for Video Static once again, so don't be shy about reaching out if you'll be there.

In music video news @ SXSW, they will have a 90 minite showcase and music video competition at the follow times/locations:

  • Wednesday, March 14, 4:30p @ Alamo Ritz 1
  • Saturday, March 17, 3:45p @ Alamo Ritz 2

Sitting in a dark theater isn't really the essence of being at SXSW for the music portion, so don't feel bad about missing out on that part, especially since you can click and watch all the entries below.

Click the songtitles for complete credits and contact info via sxsw.com. And/or Click [watch] to do exactly that.

WATCH IT: The Shoes "Time To Dance" (Daniel Wolfe, dir.)

This shouldn't be a music video. It should be the template for a Friday The 13th reboot. Instead of a hockey mask, it's a Fencing helmet and the weapon of choice is a matching sword, of course. And since the idea of teens drinking beer and having sex while at summer camp has little resonance nowadays, the victims are now ravers and other drug/EDM fans. Playing the role of Jason Voorhees is Jake Gyllenhal.

Amazing.

It's eight minutes long, there's lots of blood, Gyllenhaal absolutely kills (sorry) in this performance, and it's one of the more unapologetic videos you've seen since "Smack My Bitch Up." --> watch "Time To Dance"
