MTV unleashed details of its 2007 Video Music Awards and, as promised, it represents a bit of a shake-up...
The VMAs will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on September 9 at 8pm EST. Not only is Las Vegas a new city to host the event, but this year's ceremony will only air in its original form live. In other words, don't expect the show to be on infinite loop after the initial broadcast. All repeats of the show will be in "remixed" form that will be "programmed by and for the viewers."
Superproducer Timbaland has signed on as the show's "maestro," overseeing a series of collaborative "one time only" performances. The roster, so far, includes Foo Fighters, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Amy Winehouse, Rihanna, Lily Allen, Mark Ronson and Chris Brown.
Categories and nominees were announced during today's episode of TRL. Justin Timberlake and Beyonce lead the pack with seven nominees each, while Kanye West and Rihanna are both up for five Moon Men. The list of nominees — including several new categories — is as follows:
