TRICK OR TREAT: "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en"

Description: Sir Bob Geldof and the all-stars of Band Aid once asked about the starving people of Africa, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" A fitting follow-up question would have been, "Well, do we know if they're Christian?" The people behind the new charity single "Do They know It's Hallowe'en" poke fun at these  charity singles which have well-meaning, but often sanctimonious and ridiculous lyrics. "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en" is basically a satiric entreaty to the rest of the world to help us Americans do away with Halloween. The performing cast is essentially a who's who of the indie and alternative rock worlds. Some of the notables include comedian David Cross, Beck,  Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O, Thurston Moore of  Sonic Youth and members of The Arcade Fire, Rilo Kiley and Sloan, just to name a few. The video is an animated romp through the inner workings of an imaginary cabal that propagates Halloween and the scared citizens who have had enough of the spookiness. Oh, and just so you don't think these Halloweenies are poking fun of charity singles and not giving back, all of the proceeds go to UNICEF. Visit Vice Recordings for info and to watch the clip.
