VEVO and YouTube Contract Expires

VEVODon't let the headline scare you. Here's why:

  1. Billboard is reporting that the contract has an automatic 120 day extension, so nothing is going nowhere. VEVO will stay on YouTube for at least a few more months.
  2. They've reportedly been talking and are figuring out the financial side in terms of how advertising money split.
  3. Seems to me every video needs to be on YouTube at one point or another, even if only to preempt the countless fan uploads that would take place.

Facebook was rumored as a potential YouTube replacement for VEVO, but that seems crazy and totally detached from Facebook's core business.

So, relax. Unless you're a director who likes to get worked up about how the visual creators aren't anywhere near the bargaining table.
