Noel Gallagher's Oasis Video Commentary is Genius and Profanity Laden

As you can guess, Noel Gallagher isn't too fond of music videos, even if they're his own.

This compliation of Oasis music video DVD commentary has the songwriter/guitarist recapping his foggy memories of the process — fave quote: "I was fucking drunk in this video. Look how pissed I am there" — and generally laying out his video philosophy:

"I fucking hate videos. I hate everything about them. I hate the fact that they cost a fortune. I hate the fact you have to be there at 8 in the morning. I hate the fact that you don't leave until 8 the fucking next morning. I don't like the fact that the people who are making them think they're fucking making Apocalypse Now and everything is the most important, 'this is the really important shot, and this bit, we're gonna...' — fucking bollocks, it's nonsense. Then it was alright because of The Chart Show and all that, you know what I mean? Who fucking watches videos these days? No one. A right fucking con."

My other favorite quote? "I look like fucking Columbo."

Noel Gallagher is a genius. This is 10 minutes well worth your time. Just make sure you wear headphones if you're at work.

Boggie "Nouveau Parfum" (Nándor Lőrincz, Bálint Nagy, dir.)

We've seen viral videos where the power of Photoshop style editing makes it possible to create the "perfect" beauty, but "Nouvea Parfum" applies that concept to a full length music video for Hungarian singer Boggie. On-screen tools take her from an everyday look to full-on glam, adjusting everything from skin imperfections to applying digital make-up.

Mining The Prelinger Archives for Secret Colours "It Can't Be Simple"

The Prelinger Archives is like the hip, weird version of a traditional stock footage house. A 1947 film about "The Private Life Of A Cat?" They have it. A tutorial on how to use a bank from that same year? You bet. A 1935 documentary about bananas? You bet. And of course they have my favorite: Shake Hands With Danger, a '70s era industrial film about how not to get mauled on a construction site.

Secret Colours "It Can't Be Simple" mines the audio engineering and stereolab fringes of the archives for all of its footage, coming across with perfect retro-futuristic pitch.

Exploring Pulp Cinema with Director Michele Civetta and The Randians

If director Michele Civetta's 2006 longform "Friendly Fire" piece for Sean Lennon is essentially a feature film of a music video, but this trio of clips for indie rockers The Randians is like episodic TV series that hits all the right Pulp Fiction buttons with debaucherous glee.

We recently connected with Michele to talk about the videos, the inspirations and the guest stars (including Boardwalk Empire actress Paz De La Huerta)...

PSY Making New Video with Snoop Dogg

You want to call "Gentelman" a flop; a misogynistic miscalculation that didn't come close to "Gangnam Style." But, it was a Top Ten hit around the world, including the US, and the video was the most watched on YouTube for 2013.

So, don't call it a comeback.

The follow-up to the follow-up is now under production — as reveald by PSY's twitter —  this time featuring Snoop Dogg and PSY's fellow Korean, G-Dragon.

Be warned.

Chris Cunningham Directs New Warpaint Documentary

Chris Cunningham may be one of the most acclaimed video directors — Bjork "All Is Full Of Love" and  Aphex Twin "Come To Daddy" to name just two of his masterpieces — yet is also one of the most enigmatic, having directed merely a handful of videos over the past decades.

"Love Is To Die" isn't a music video — it's a teaser to a full-length documentary chronicling the band Warpaint over the past two years as they made their new, self-titled album. And as you could expect from anything by Cunningham, it won't be a traditional documentary, but something more dreamlike, deeper and collaborative.

As described via Warpaint's YouTube listing for the video:

Visionary director Chris Cunningham spent 2 years with Warpaint, filming and photographing as they made new music. In addition to capturing imagery he also reimagined the songs themselves, creating beautiful and exciting alternate versions to soundtrack the visuals. The resulting documentary is something that only could have come from this unique meld of talents.

More to come...
