IN DEPTH: Maroon 5 "Never Gonna Leave This Bed" (Tim Nackashi, dir.)

I guess when a rock star is dating a Victoria's Secret model, there's no sense looking any further when it comes time to cast for their music videos. Anne Vyalitsyna follows up her featured role in Maroon 5's "Misery" with "Never Gonna Leave This Bed," which finds her never leaving singer/boyfriend Adam Levine's bed, no matter where it is. --> watch "Never Gonna Leave This Bed"

Tim Nackashi, director: "Maroon 5 wanted to explore the chaotic feeling of having private lives in public, and when we got to sharing ideas, it became clear that they were into the idea of going beyond shooting a straight video. They were willing to actually go out and do something real – a stunt of sorts, or some kind of performance art. So we came up with the idea of putting Maroon 5 in a plexiglass truck which we would take around to heavily trafficked areas of Los Angeles and basically have them 'pop-up' unexpectedly in the middle of a pedestrian scene – like objects on display behind glass. And to take the exploration of intimate life and public life further, we decided to put Adam Levine and his girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna in beds which would be placed out in the open at a few monumental locations around LA – the Santa Monica Pier, Mann’s Chinese Theater and out in front of Teddy’s/Roosevelt Hotel at night – in addition to transporting them throughout the city in the plexi-truck.

We wanted to see how people would react and what they might do unprompted, so we hired no extras or actors, and we didn’t announce anything about this until the band started tweeting about their experiences on the day of the shoot.

I didn’t really know how the whole event was going to feel, but I was pretty sure that it would surprise some people and get a lot of gawking as people passed by. Fortunately things built up to be pretty huge and chaotic -- especially at the Chinese Theater when there must have been hundreds of passersby gathered around just to look at Adam and Anne in a bed.

I think Adam and Anne felt really exposed and I was almost scared for them at certain points. It was a pretty brave thing to do."
