SHYNOLA, directors: "We had a great conversation where the band articulated their ideas about modern identity, the effect of technology on culture and our inability to connect with others. We’re fascinated by anthropology and coincidentally we had been toying with ideas for a feature film about a post-technology civilisation, in which humans have reverted to primitive behaviour. Sometimes things just fit together.
Bergman’s The Virgin Spring was also a significant influence when we were writing the treatment. I love that film’s gloomy, oppressive light, but mostly the biblical simplicity of the story. The acts are raw, human, and so much is told silently. Of course compared to Bergman, Shynola are shit, but, y’know, you keep trying..."
